Got this over the holidays but haven't gotten around to posting it. Springfield Armory - serial number places its production sometime around 1942. No cartouches , which leads me to believe it never went overseas. Perhaps it was used as a training rifle? Awesome piece of history.

Looks a bit battered - like a Garand is supposed to, though.

Nice M1

I have a rifle from the good ol' Soviet Union, a Mosin M44 frim 1944.

I'd like to get a 9130 and make it into a "modern" kind of sniper/hunting rifle. I've seen people take mosins and put modern scopes and stocks on them and it looks pretty cool.

Yeah I've thought about ordering a new stock to make her look nice and pretty. But I will probably hunt with this gun so I'll probably hold off.

Excellent choice for Zombie Apocalypse. I would totally rock one of these for ZA although I have a weird soft spot for the SVD Dragunov:

They're not super accurate but it's basically an AK with a long barrel and a bigger round.

You know that modern ammo is more powerful and can bend your op rod, right? There's a gas plug that solves that issue, just google around.

I bought my 91/30 on sale just before gun prices skyrocketed. I'm almost tempted to sell it to raise funds for something more fun.

What is the market on those now? I got my M44 for 150 bucks IIRC and this was probably 4 years ago.

Excellent choice- the greatest battle implement ever devised( (C) George Patton), in fact.

I went to a gun show over the weekend, and 91/30's were going for 159, sometimes a few bucks more with the bayo/cleaning kit/pouches/teardrop tool/sling. I paid less than 110 out the door (background check and sales tax included) when I bought mine in... May of...2012. M44's are around 200-250 depending on condition. Even the Chinese type 53's are upwards of a hundred now, and those things look AWFUL.

Mine has the gun cleaning kit and the pre-recall flip out bayonet. My brother and my Uncle both have 91/30's. IIRC my brothers has the cleaning kit, strap and slip on bayonet. I think those guns were both 100 dollars at the time. A Gander Mtn in NY had bought a massive shipment of Mosins (it was really a trade) with a gun store somewhere and they had a ton of 91/30's out for sale but we only found one M44 at the time.

I need to sight mine in better because it shoots off to the right by a few inches and it annoys the hell out of me lol.

I love the swing out pig-sticker bayonets. My buddy's SKS has one (as does his m44). They were designed to leave super inhumane, brutal wounds. You can still buy crates of 20 mosins online (and hand them out like presents lol) if you search around. Pre-recall? I was lucky enough to get all the accessories, and even an extra two-slot ammo pouch, because the store didn't know there was one in the box already.

Yup, haven't ordered the plug but have been shooting Garand approved ammo.

I read online a while ago that the M44 had two style of bayonets. The later style had a revised lock so the blade would lock in better. Which, I don't know how much it matters since it goes around the barrel. I'll try to see if I can find something on that again.

Ahhh, I see that now. That is weird, you'd think that...

A. it wouldn't matter for a civilian shooter

B. the barrel lock style would be adequate anyways

Thats what I would have figured, so I'm not sure why they had to change it.
